Forty years ago today, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band was released (June 2, 1967). This album generated more attention than any other Beatles album. The reason for the platitudes was that it was the first "concept" album. Most everyone agrees that musically it may not have been their best album but it certainly created the most buzz. Anyway, in honor of the this grand occasion here are some survey questions.

No trivia about the record, but do you know which Beatle was left-handed?
1. Yes, I was in sixth grade.
2. Yes, I saw the other shows.
3. No I never got to see them in concert. In fact, I didn't go to a concert until I was at Pepperdine. Barry and I took two gals to see the Moody Blues at the LA Forum.
4. Have too many favorite songs by them - most of them off the Rubber Soul album.
5. Favorite album, hands down, is Rubber Soul (the Capital release not the UK version).
6. Probably Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. I still accept John's claim that Julian brought home a picture with that title on it.

I did skip #6. I probably was thinking ahead and thought I answered it. Don't really have a favorite. I thought that the four of them together had something really good. It's too bad that something (ego, pride, different musical ideas and directions, who knows) got in the way. I noticed that many times a band would be doing really well, then suddenly they all go their separate ways and none of them really do well. The sum total of the parts working together in many cases was greater than the sum total of the individual parts working alone. Long answer to a short question.

Bob, my parents did not let us listen to music growing up so very little of the beatles is familiar to me. Since Ned and I got married he has been trying to educate me---I'll let you know when we get past Weird Al and the Stones. :)

Neva, NO don't listen to the Stones and Weird Al before you get to know the Beatles! Just kidding. Weird Al is nice because he's a G rated rock star - not too many of them around. Come to think of it he's probably the only one. But the Stones are the opposite spectrum from Weird Al. Keith Richards jokingly said that he probably sniffed (is that the right word) his dad's ashes during a cocaine high. He said he was kidding later, but you know, I think he probably told the truth the first time. Anyway, that's my two cents.
